what’s cooking

So. Here it is - my new website. Finally. It took me some time to come up with the concept, but I think I have reached some kind of compromise in building a coherent portfolio that would combine all my favorite photographic subjects, including The North Sea.

The North Sea

The North Sea was originally supposed to be a separate project. It started on Instagram, it got its own domain (where not much happens), in the meantime I even launched a printshop on Etsy (which turned out to be a total mistake). In the almost year-long history of selling my photo prints, it was the sea photos that sold the best. Also thanks to them, I was invited to participate in the exhibition (more on that later).

This project definitely holds a special place in my life. Through it, I actually learned how to make pictures. I also expanded my skills to include drone and water photography. I had lots of fun and got lots of sand in my shoes and teeth. And took lots, lots of pictures.

Over the course of 1.5 years, The North Sea has grown to the full sized body of work. From purely visually appealing postcard photos, it has transformed into a documentary project about life on the Dutch coast. And it will likely continue to grow.

In the meantime, however, I began to be drawn to other photographic areas. Traveling, lots of traveling, or simply walking around with dry feet cross country and in the cities turned out to be inspiring as well.
Maybe I knew deep down that I needed to explore different photographic fronts to avoid getting bored with the sea. Or perhaps I did started to get a little bored with it, which is why I began looking elsewhere.
Whatever IT is, I found IT in places within reach, but also during my favorite, farthest trips (for example, in northern Norway or in the most remote places in Scotland).

where portraits

What - for now - has been excluded from my portfolio are commercial assignments and portraits.

I still take on photographic jobs from time to time, depending on the project and my availability. These are great collaborations with great people and companies. However, I don’t have the need to showcase photos from these sessions here.

I want this page to be entirely dedicated to my art and/or documentary projects, and I plan to focus on them fully in the near future.

As for portraits, I'm considering experimenting with creative portraits soon. I have a lot of ideas and a few sessions are already pre-arranged. I just want to see if my heart will beat faster with this type of work.

life at the moment

The past few months were very intense, both professionally, family- and hobbywise. It’s time for a little break. In a few days we’re heading out on a road trip to Scandinavia. I hope to return with cards full of adventurous photos of my wife and dog (and hopefully some moose). There will likely be time for some travel photos and drone shots as well.

Unfortunately, our vacation means I won’t be able to attend the opening of We Make The Hague exhibition on the 4th of September. My works will be showcased there!

If you are in The Hague or surroundings, feel free to come by to Javastraat 138A. The exhibition will run till the 28th of September. I will be there right after I return from vacation. At the end of September the Makers Market will take place, where you will be able to buy showcased photos, as well as other works by Hague artists. I will be there too with my prints and little gifts for visitors. Come by for a quick high five!

Not long after that, at the beginning of October, I'm heading to Ireland for a few days on a solo phototrip. I'll only be taking a sleeping bag, a camera, a drone and a toothbrush with me. My essential travel kit that assures lots of fun and so necessary time for myself.

I guess that's it for now. So not that you think my life is just photography, I'm getting back to work as my lunch break is ending :)

Houdoe! Take care and see you soon.
